 Genius Hour

My 20% project is on origami. My goal is by the end of the year to make videos of how to make origami. I want to have many tutorial videos on how to make origami. There are going to be about 15 videos, one per week. At the end of the year I want to have many different origami and different videos of teaching people how to make it.

    Today I, learned how to make a crane. I wanted to start off simple, so I made what everyone thinks of when someone says origami. I learned that it is hard to fold things to the directions. I messed up a lot. I was successful but I have not made my video yet.

    Today I remembered how to make an origami fortune teller. I used to know how to make these but I had to learn how to again. I didn't have the time to draw on it but I still made it.

    This time i tried to make a dragon. I tried many times but failed all of them. The best one I did I could only complete a little more than half of the steps.

    Today I decided to attempt to make an envelope. I completed this by watching a tutorial on how to do it, and i completed it first try. It looks good and can works as a functional envelope.

    For this day of making origami i made a paper butterfly. This one was pretty easy and I was able to complete if first try. At first my struggle was making it stay in shape without holding it but i managed to keep it in the right shape.

    The project I wanted to work on today was a bunny. This is in my opinion, one of my best creations. I completed this creation first try, with no mistakes. It is free standing so it can stand on its own. It took a while to make but it was all worth it.

    Today I wanted to challenge myself with the hardest project I have done yet. This was going to be a rose, that could turn into a cube. This took 6 papers and 4 hours to make. I have one failed subject, and the final product. Overall I think this is my best creation yet.

    For this session of origami i decided to take it easy and make a box. There are many different ways to make boxes, some with lids, some that need multiple papers, simple ones, etc. I needed to learn how to make the most simple thing sometime, because I completely forgot to make it when I started.

    This time in origami I wanted to make another animal. So far I've been wanting to make animals mainly because they look better than most other things I make. I made this crab but it wasn't enough this time so i made some eyes for it.

    While last time I made a box, this time I made a drawer. This drawer consists of 2 pull out boxes that are similar to the box I made before. With the knowledge of the box I made before It made this a little easier. It also works if you have anything small enough to fit in this.

    As usual I continued to make another animal. This one took a bit longer than the others but it is also free standing. I think I'm really liking how the animals are coming out and I plan on continuing to expand my collection of origami animals.

    This time I made a dolphin. It was a little harder than I thought it was going to be but I still did it. This is my second attempt to making a dolphin and this was the best I could make it look. I don't think it looks bad though.

    Today I am truly happy with this one. I honestly think this is the best animal I have made yet. The turtle I made is green like normal but the shell is actually a different design. I think this one came out really good and I even drew some eyes on it.

    Today I wanted to make a flower and I found this lotus flower. I think after making it, it looked really good and did not disappoint. Usually when I make something it is only folds, but this time I have to curve the edges to make the flower petals.

    Today I actually made a dinosaur. I tried to make it free standing, but getting both sides of the dinosaur were hard to even out. It needed to balance on the legs but it was harder than I thought. I still think it came out good though.

    Today I made a heart, by request of my little cousin. I didn't make a normal heart though, I made it 3 dimensional. This was definitely the second hardest thing I made, but not as hard as the flower cube. This one took a while and can actually be blown up and deflated. I think this is also now my second favorite origami creation.
